Montgomery Gentry finished an album before Troy’s passing.
My mom was the first one to tell me.
It didn’t really register at first. It didn’t make sense.
“Montgomery Gentry was killed in a helicopter crash?”
I just didn’t get it.
Then I looked it up and realized she was right. Troy Gentry had died in a helicopter crash while getting ready for a concert.
Just difficult to process. I know the fans have been mourning. And I can’t even imagine what his family and friends have been going through.
And Eddie. Man, those two seemed like brothers.
There is some light, though. Eddie and Troy had resigned with Average Joes this year where they had their most recent top ten radio hit. And they completed an album.
Now there is a first single.
Better Me – Montgomery Gentry
Montgomery Gentry never really stopped making music after parting with their major label. They put out some good music on independent labels. They had one big hit with Average Joes, but that’s been it as far as hits are concerned.
I don’t know how this one will play out. There will be some yearning and curiosity and that will certainly help.
But what I think will ultimately help this song is the fact that it’s a great song.
We have a guy in the song looking at his life. He’s realizing that he’s made some mistakes. Don’t we all?
But the key thing is that he’s ready to start working on a better man. He’s already started. He knows that there will be setbacks, but for the first time he’s ready to change.
This is a good song. And for the most part good songs win out with country fans.
Do you think this one will be a success?
