It’s another great song from Billy Currington. Like My Dog is a laid back song from country’s king of cool. Billy is back with a funny track that should have all the guys nodding their head in agreement and the women probably shaking their heads and rolling their eyes.
Like My Dog is about a guy and his dog…and a woman, of course. The guy is sitting around hanging out with his dog. He’s thinking about how loyal his dog is. The dog never complains. The dog never judges the guy and never tells him to make more money, or to straighten up his style, or to change anything. The dog just loves the guy for who he is and everything is all good.
Now I don’t know if I prefer a dog’s love to that of a woman’s, but Billy makes some good points. Like My Dog is all in fun, though. It’s a light hearted song that just has a guy poking fun at the things his woman brings up from time to time. It’s not that he doesn’t love her. He just wishes sometimes she’d give him a little break. There is no need to be on his case all the time.
It should be interesting to see how Like My Dog is received by the country audience. It’s one of those songs that could be caught the wrong way by the women in the audience or things could work out and women just brush it off as having a bit of fun. I’m thinking everything will work out and Billy will have himself another smash hit single.
Billy has been on a roll lately with his singles. Love Done Gone nearly cracked the top ten. The previous four singles all went to #1 on the singles charts. His albums have been selling extremely well and there seems to be nothing slowing Billy down these days.
One thing I like about Billy Currington is he’s not afraid to try something a little different with his songs. Like My Dog is certainly a little out there and while I think the topic is something people will relate to, I’m also thinking it will be a bit polarizing. Who knows. Maybe I’m over thinking the song. Either way, Billy is trying something new, but he’s always got a good melody and that’s what really matters when it comes to having a hit single.
