This is my first introduction to Jeannine Barry. The first impression is a good one.
I never know what to expect when listening to an artist’s music for the first time. Will things be a little rough around the edges?
Are they just getting started or have they been working at it for awhile?
Usually you can tell those things and from the first listen you can tell that Jeannine has probably been honing her craft for awhile. She has a good song and she does a great job with the vocals.
Bittersweet – Jeannine Barry
The first thing you notice about the song is the style. It’s got a jazzy, lounge-type feel to it. You can imagine yourself at a local open mic night downtown somewhere.
Jeannine would be one of those people that gets up to play and instead of talking amongst your friends in the bar you all kind of turn your heads toward the stage.
She seems to have the quality that will pull you in.
With the song, you’re not entirely sure what the story is at first, but you can feel the emotion. Jeannine really seems to be a lot of herself into the song when she’s singing.
But she’s not overdoing it. She’s not trying to reach crazy notes or trying to blow you off your stance with loud vocals or anything. It’s controlled and it sounds great.
The song seems to be about a woman that’s kind of struggling with her feelings for someone. There are good aspects, but also some that are challenging.
You’ll have to let me know your interpretation.
