You might consider this a romantic song, but I’m not so sure.
I think ole sly Blake is just doing one of his favorite things. He’s drinking with a beautiful woman and seeing where the night goes. Drink On It plays on the edge of romance and being naughty, but I think it works.
Drink On It – Blake Shelton
These songs are always a little edgy. It’s hard to tell if the conservative country audience will find it romantic or a bit sleazy. I think Drink On It will work just fine, though. Blake comes across as the guy that’s just looking to talk and enjoy a few stories of life, love, and romance.
The song is about two people that meet one night in a bar. They’re enjoying a few drinks and they get to know each other. Each has their own problems back in reality and they’re looking for someone else in the world that understands.
Sometimes you meet that person. It can be at the hotel bar. It can be at work. It can be anywhere, but when you meet them you feel the connection. You feel the emotion taking over your body as you finally find someone that understands you and your life. It’s a great feeling and it’s hard not to get caught up in the moment.
Blake is the master at songs like this. You can see him smiling in the background as he records this track. There has been a little influx of these kinds of romantic songs over the last couple years. I think it really started with a song like Big Green Tractor from Jason Aldean. Since then country’s biggest male stars have been coming out with romantic tracks that play off the awe-shucks nature of good ole country boys.
But don’t be fooled, girls. These guys are smarter than they let on. Some of us are simple minded, but we have a plan. We aim to win your heart over and make you ours for tonight and possibly even the rest of our lives.
Drink On It seems like it will become the sixth number one song in a row for Blake Shelton. I’m not going to take the full leap and predict a number one song here, though. I’m going to stick with the top three and say this one just misses the mark. There are a lot of good songs coming out on radio right now including a new one from Miranda. There can’t be room at the top for them all.
I think Blake just misses out on the top spot with this one. It’s still a great song and I hope everyone proves me wrong and really promotes this one on radio.
