Blake has only released four singles from the same album once before. It takes quite the record to have more than two or three singles today. Blake’s most recent record, Red River Blue, is certainly that kind of album.

Did you catch the play on words in the song?

If you’re like most people or at least like me, you probably judged the song from its title. I figured the song was going to be about a relationship that had ended. I even thought there might be a slim chance that it was not necessarily about a man and a woman and their relationship ending, but perhaps the death of a loved one.

It turns out that Over is not really a sad song at all. It’s about a guy that wants so bad for a girl to fall in love with him. He wants to do whatever he can to make her fall for him. It’s a romantic song and Blake really nails that feeling with his vocals.

I remember listening to this record last summer when it was released (can there really be four singles already in less than a year?) and this track was a stand out. I thought it had potential to be a single and I’m sure Blake and his team knew that long before someone like me did.

What jumps out about the song is the power in Blake’s vocals. The song is certainly powerful on its own. The emotion of love and falling for someone and winning them over in the same way is something everybody goes through. It’s a powerful emotion, but Blake really made the song his own with the strong vocals. His voice just booms out of the speakers and he really commands the stage in the live performance.

Something that is great about Blake is how well he does during the live shows. Last year at Country Jam in Eau Claire he nailed just about every song and it’s amazing because he laughs quite a bit during the set as he cracks jokes.

But when things get serious like they are for this song everybody in the crowd gets a different feeling. This is a song people sway back and forth to as they listen. But by the end they are all singing along with the chorus. It’s hard not to.

Over is a great song and is there any doubt this is going to be Blake’s seventh (yes, seventh!) number one song in a row?
