Now things are getting serious.
Sam Hunt has three back-to-back number one hits on the country charts. And that’s not just on one of the charts. All three of his last singles have been #1 on the combined sales/airplay/streams chart as well as the country radio charts.
This is big time and things look to keep rolling with his next single.
Break Up In A Small Town – Sam Hunt
This song seems familiar from the standpoint of the music Sam has been putting out the last couple years. This one is probably closest to Take Your Time with the speaking nature of the lyrics.
And it works really well. It has another really catchy chorus, but the R&B influence is really evident on this one. The bass is pretty heavy in parts.
Will country fans appreciate this one?
I think so.
Sam has been one of the pleasant surprises in country the last few years. He’s really been pushing the boundaries and I think that’s pretty cool. Country has always had room for different styles. There will always be more progressive artists and more traditional artists.
Sam is pushing things, but in the end of the day he’s singing about the things country fans want to hear about and he’s doing it with catchy melodies.
The song is about the situation people are in after a breakup and specifically in a small town. When you live in a small town it’s really hard to escape a long time relationship.
Great song. Will it be another number one for Sam?
I don’t know if I can call it a #1. I think it could be…let me know what you think.
Chart Estimate: #3
CML Points: 88/100
