A woman that can write, sing and play? It’s no surprise that Sheryl Crow is doing well in the country genre.
It’s not a surprise that Sheryl Crow put out a great record. She’s been doing that for 20 years.
The surprise was that Sheryl came out with a country record. She didn’t really change that much. Country today has a lot of parallels with ’90s pop music. The singers back then wrote a lot of their own music and that’s what some country singers are doing today. Darius Rucker is another one from Sheryl’s pop generation that has had success in country.
Sheryl just about touched the top 20 on the country charts with Easy. Now she’s back with a new single that’s even more country that its predecessor.
Give it a listen and see what you think.
Callin’ Me When I’m Lonely – Sheryl Crow
I don’t use the term too country very often, but this song is riding the line. The story in the song is classic country. You have a girl that knows this guy is bad for her, but she can’t pull herself away. She’s feeling lonely and the guy seems to know the exact right moments to give her a call.
This is the type of song that can work both ways with men and women. It’s something people can relate to and I think it will be a pretty solid hit for Sheryl.
It reminds me of a Lee Ann Womack song in a way. It’s very country, but Sheryl does maintain that pop-rock edge, which I think gives this song a pretty good chance to succeed on the charts.
We’ll have to wait and see.
What are your thoughts?
Will this one be a hit?
