I really, really like this one.
Once in awhile a song comes along that really catches my attention. I have a bit of a soft spot for songs that sound a little more traditional.
I love modern country music. But it’s always nice when something a little old school comes along. It kind of proves that this kind of music still has a place today.
Maria Taylor is new to us here at CML. This is the first song I’ve heard of hers and it’s really good.
Can’t Forgive The Rain – Maria Taylor
I think what’s going on in the song is that a woman is thinking back to a night that a guy broke up with her. Or when they decided it was best that they both go their separate ways.
It sounds like they were in the car. It started really raining hard so they had to pull over. And that’s when the guy took the opportunity to break things off.
It’s common for us all to associate things in life. In this case the woman associates downpour rain with heartbreak. She knows the rain had nothing to do with it. He would have broken it off at another point.
But it’s still easy to blame the rain for the breakup. A breakup that really took a toll on her. So much so that it still affects her any time it rains.
This is about as country as it gets. It kind of reminds me of Deana Carter in a few ways. I hope fans like this one.
What do you think?
