Let’s talk about the good old times.
Clint Black had a super career back in the early ’90s. Most people forget he actually got off to a faster start than Garth Brooks. Clint was the one drawing all the attention and awards right out of the gate. Clint had a way with words and combined with his songwriting partner, Hayden Nichols, created some great country music.
Let’s flashback to one of my favorite country songs.
Listen to Nothing’s News from way back in 1990…
Nothing’s News – Clint Black
Now there is some traditional country music.
Clint Black was a member of the so called Class of ’89. The time saw a huge influx of big country stars. They all leaned toward a traditional sound and the leader of the pack initially was Clint Black. He was the one to come out with four straight number one singles.
The fifth single release from Clint’s first album was actually his first to not reach the top spot on the charts. The song was Nothing’s News and even though it didn’t reach the top spot it still made it to number three. That’s not too shabby and looking back it’s hard to believe a song as good as this didn’t reach number one.
There is a somber tone to Nothing’s News. When I’m in the right mood this song is perfect. It’s a great song for thinking about the good old days. It’s a reflective kind of song. Country music is perfect for those moments of reflection. The song is about getting together with good friends and thinking about the times when life was better.
Sure life can be good now, but for some there will always be a better time back in the past. There is nothing wrong with a little reflection now and then and with Nothing’s News Clint and Hayden captured the emotion perfectly.
And now I’m reflecting on the good old times of when this song came out.
What a crazy world.
