Toby Keith Co-Hosts the Show Tonight

Who’s gonna win?

The CMT Music Awards are tonight. The stars are all together to hang out, perform, and collect a few awards. I think it’s always one of the coolest nights of the year for country music. The rules are looser than other award shows and anything can happen. The element of unpredictability is enough to make me watch.

There are always a few surprises each year. I’m not sure what will happen on the stage when the music is playing, but I’ll give my best guess for each of the awards.

CMT Music Awards 2012 Predictions

Be sure to voice your own predictions in the comments. I want to know if you agree or disagree.

Video of the Year

Nominees

  • Jason Aldean – Dirt Road Anthem
  • Kenny Chesney and Grace Potter – You and Tequila
  • Toby Keith – Red Solo Cup
  • Lady Antebellum – We Owned The Night
  • Miranda Lambert – Over You
  • Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood – Remind Me
  • Rascal Flatts and Natasha Bedingfield- Easy
  • Blake Shelton – God Gave Me You
  • Taylor Swift – Safe & Sound
  • Carrie Underwood – Good Girl

Will Win: Carrie Underwood – Good Girl

Should Win: Kenny Chesney and Grace Potter – You and Tequila

This is obviously the biggest award of the night. It’s a tough call. Each of the videos was pretty good. You know I’m a huge Jason Aldean fan, but Carrie is back in a big way and her fans are loving her new album. I think they’ll come out strong. My ultimate tip of the hat goes to Kenny. The song and video for You And Tequila was the best of the year.

Male Video of the Year

Nominees

  • Jason Aldean – Dirt Road Anthem
  • Luke Bryan – I Don’t Want This Night To End
  • Eric Church – Drink In My Hand
  • Toby Keith – Red Solo Cup
  • Blake Shelton – God Gave Me You
  • Keith Urban – Long Hot Summer

Will Win: Luke Bryan

Should Win: Luke Bryan

Man…how do you pick this one? These nominees are awesome. Jason Aldean had what was probably the biggest song of the year. Eric Church is on a huge roll. Toby had a monster hit. I personally love Long Hot Summer and Blake is blowing up on the TV right now. I’ll go with Luke. He has a ton of fans and that duel video this year was great. He’s a star.

Female Video of the Year

Nominees

  • Sara Evans – My Heart Can’t Tell You No
  • Miranda Lambert – Over You
  • Martina McBride – I’m Gonna Love You Through It
  • Kellie Pickler – Tough
  • Taylor Swift – Ours
  • Carrie Underwood – Good Girl

Will Win: Miranda Lambert – Over You

Should Win: Miranda Lambert – Over You

Carrie takes home the big award and Miranda takes home this one. I think the fans will vote for this amazing and personal video. It was special.

Group Video of the Year

Nominees

  • The Band Perry – All Your Life
  • Eli Young – Crazy Girl
  • Lady Antebellum – We Owned The Night
  • Pistol Annies – Hell On Heels
  • Rascal Flatts – Banjo
  • Zac Brown Band – Keep Me In Mind

Will Win: Lady Antebellum – We Owned The Night

Should Win: The Band Perry – All Your Life

The Band Perry is amazing. The more I listen to them and watch them the more I think they are superstars. They are imaginative with their videos. This was a great video to fit a great country song. Lady A brings this one home, though. They are huge, huge with the fans for obvious reasons.

Duo Video of the Year

Nominees

  • The Civil Wars – Poison and Wine
  • Love and Theft – Angel Eyes
  • Montgomery Gentry – Where I Come From
  • Sugarland – Tonight
  • Thompson Square – Glass
  • Thompson Square – I Got You

Will Win: Thompson Square

Should Win: I Got You

When you have two videos nominated the odds are just better that you’ll win. Thompson Square had a huge year and I think they’ll get their due in the awards.

USA Weekend Breakthrough Video of the Year

Nominees

  • Lauren Alaina – Georgia Peaches
  • Brantley Gilbert – Country Must Be Country Wide
  • Hunter Hayes – Storm Warning
  • Scotty McCreery – The Trouble With Girls
  • Pistol Annies – Hell On Heels
  • Thompson Square – I Got You

Will Win: Scotty McCreery – The Trouble With Girls

Should Win: Brantley Gilbert – Country Must Be Country Wide

Scotty edged out Brantley earlier this year with the similar award. There are some interesting storylines here, but my favorite is Brantley. I’d also look for something special from the Pistol Annies. People love them and their music and for good reason.

Collaborative Video of the Year

Nominees

  • Kenny Chesney and Grace Potter – You and Tequila
  • Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood – Remind Me
  • Rascal Flatts and Natasha Bedingfield – Easy
  • Lionel Richie and Shania Twain – Endless Love
  • Taylor Swift and The Civil Wars – Safe and Sound
  • Zac Brown Band and Jimmy Buffett – Knee Deep

Will Win: Kenny Chesney and Grace Potter – You and Tequila

Should Win: Kenny Chesney and Grace Potter – You and Tequila

Tough one to call. Can Taylor really go the entire show without winning? I’m not sure. Carrie’s fans might bring this one home as well. It will be interesting to see this one play out.

CMT Performance of the Year

Nominees

  • Jason Aldean
  • Lady Antebellum
  • Little Big Town
  • Blake Shelton
  • Sting and Vince Gill
  • Steven Tyler and Carrie Underwood

Will Win: Steven Tyler and Carrie Underwood

Should Win: Lady Antebellum

Steven Tyler and Carrie Underwood are two of the biggest stars in the world. They rock the stage on their own and they rock it even harder together. It was a great performance, but if you haven’t seen Lady A perform live you are missing out. That was a great performance.
