Did you know that when you listen to mainstream country radio, chances are, you are missing out on some really good country songs? It’s true. That is why when I started digging up some really good stuff, I knew I couldn’t keep it to myself and had to share it with all you other country music fans.
So, I decided to start a series. Every few weeks I am going to offer up two songs that you are being cheated out of the pleasure of hearing them on the radio.
So here it is. Anyone of the songs below could hold their own on mainstream country radio but for some reason – most likely music business politics – you will not hear these tunes along side the mainstream country acts.
Check ’em out.
Good Country Songs Not on the Radio
Cry Lonely – Cross Canadian Ragweed
A friend of mine introduced me to this band a few years ago. After seeing them live, I was hooked.
They have a ton of great tunes but I chose this one for a few reasons. The hook is intoxicating, the lyrics are great, vocals are smooth and the subject matter is universal. Who can’t relate to being used by someone only wanting you around as a fall back option when things aren’t working out on greener side of the fence? Well ok, maybe not everyone but trust me it sucks. Either way the subject matter makes for a great tune.
Crazy – Whitey Morgan and the 78’s
Ever find yourself missing the raw “I don’t give a she-aht” goodtimin’ atittude of the 70’s outlaw country? Me too! And Whitey Morgan and the 78’s is the perfect remedy.
Whitey’s vocals are equal parts Waylon and Hank Jr with just as much, if not more, attitude. This tune fire’s up the engines ever time I hear it.
Listen for the verse with my favorite line…
“Well I got a women, we’re a heaven made match you see, she fans the flames when the devil comes out in me.”
Thats love my friend!
And don’t stop there if you like that tune, grab a sixpack and sit back with their debut CD that is packed with outlaw goodness. You won’t be disappointed!
Go Get Em!
Now go check them out and when you hear them, let me know what you think in the comments below. And hey, if there are any that you know about, please share with the rest of us.
See you next time.
