Although he’s no longer touring or recording like he used to, David Lee Murphy is staying busy in the country music industry these days. Last year, David Lee saw a song he had a hand in co-writing go straight up the charts to number 1. The song was Big Green Tractor
and the singer was country superstar Jason Aldean. The song was probably the biggest hit during the summer of ’09. A sweet, tongue-in-cheek romantic ballad, Big Green Tractor
was a huge hit for Aldean on the radio and it’s become a popular ringtone as well.
Now, another David Lee song is just starting it’s climb as it works to become a top song of the summer of 2010. Way Out Here by Josh Thompson is working its way up the top forty at the moment. The song was co-written by Thompson and two of Nashville’s finest songwriters David Lee Murphy and Casey Beathard (Ten Rounds With Jose Cuervo, Ready, Set, Don’t Go, Walk A Little Straighter). The song is seeming to connect well with fans as the track is being picked up on major radio stations across the country.
David Lee Murphy broke out onto the scene with the 3rd and 4th singles off his 1994 album Out With A Bang. The two songs are still regulars on country radio today: Party Crowd
and Dust On The Bottle
. Most folks can’t resist turning up the volume a little when those songs, especially Dust On The Bottle, comes through the speakers.
Davide Lee isn’t recording his own music as often these days – his last album was released in 2004 and featured the top five hit Loco – but he’s found a new niche as a successful songwriter. It seems like each year David Lee has 2 or 3 songs climbing the charts and hanging around the top twenty. Some of those even break all the way through to become huge smash hits like Living In Fast Forward and Big Green Tractor.
It’s great to see David Lee Murphy still having an impact on country music.
