Sierra Hull is 19 years old.

When you hear her sing it’s like a bluegrass angel is singing right through your skin and into your heart. Her music takes you to a place way out in the country. Her songs are isolating and entrancing. It’s beautiful music and her latest is no different. Listen to Daybreak; the title track to Sierra Hull’s latest album.

Daybreak is another winner from Sierra Hull. This girl just keeps releasing these amazingly beautiful videos. She’s slowly becoming well known in country circles and it’ll just take a breakthrough with one of these songs before she’s as big as Alison Krauss.

Sierra HullFrom what I can comprehend, Daybreak is about the way a woman feels every morning when the light is first rising over the horizon. She’s thinking about the love of her life and how they can no longer be together. She wonders how she’ll get through this day. Everyday seems to be a struggle for this poor girl as she tries to not think about how things once were and how things are now.

The one thing I can’t figure out from the song lyrics or the video is if the guy has left or if he has died. I’m just not sure. You’ll have to help me on the details there.

Concerning the video, it’s beautiful. The images are taken out at what looks like a country farm house; isolated by great fields of wild grasses and beautiful country. I love videos set in places like this. It reminds me of a few farms I’ve been to up here in Wisconsin. You can sit on the front porch and not see another building or sign of humans in any direction. It’s a really great feeling to feel alone in the world; it’s like being isolated and having everything that is wonderful all to yourself. Maybe that sounds selfish, but it’s nice to be alone sometimes; just you and your thoughts.

Sierra Hull has another great song to add to her collection. Daybreak probably won’t be the hit that breaks her out into the mainstream country audience, but she seems to be putting out great bluegrass music that has crossover potential. It was almost 20 years ago when Alison Krauss covered When You Say Nothing At All and really become a country star. I think that song is on the horizon for Sierra Hull.

It’s been an interesting 2011 for Sierra Hull. Earlier this year was the first time I’d heard about her music. When I was able to learn about her history in music it became obvious she’s a veteran in the business despite only being 19 years old. She’s been performing for years and has released a few albums. This year she just happened to start getting more attention on CMT. When I saw her for the first time the similarity to Alison Krauss was evident.

Sierra has a voice like Alison’s, but Sierra is entirely her own artist. She draws on the influence of the great bluegrass vocalists and musicians before her and is able to add her own interpretations. She’s a great talent and it will be interesting to watch her continue to grow her fanbase and even break into the mainstream country audience. I think it’s going to happen and sooner instead of later.

Sierra Hull is a star in the making.
