This is my new favorite song heading into the New Year.
When Big Machine signs an artist and starts promoting their music it’s a reason to pay attention. They’ve proven over the last 10+ years that they know what they’re doing. Taylor Swift had something to do with it, but they’ve been doing some really good things for country music over the years.
Here is a brand new act from Big Machine called Midland. They’re pretty cool and I’m really liking this first single.
Check it out and see what you think.
Drinkin’ Problem – Midland
Can you feel it?

Country music has been making a little comeback here and there over the last year. We have been getting some neo-traditionalists coming out and I would put this band right there.
This is a hardcore country song with lyrics that sound traditional while also sounding fresh. These guys have a style that is refreshing in today’s country music. You know I love the classic stuff and this one brings me back while also sounding like something completely new.
The song is about a guy that’s probably in denial. I don’t know if we really get into the details of the situation. The guy probably lost his girl or lost his job. He’s been dealing with it the best way he knows how and that’s doing a little drinking.
Everyone is kind of getting on his case, but he thinks it’s not a problem and that it’s really a good solution.
I like the line that people think he’s got a drinking problem, but he’s got no problem drinking at all.
Great country music line.
Chart Estimate: #10
CML Points: 89/100
Now THAT’S country!
Agreed 🙂
Not a sound i usually enjoy in country but added to my playlist just because of this epic part:
“People say I got a drinkin’ problem but I got no problem drinkin’ at all. They keep on talkin’ drawing conclusions, they call it a problem, I call it a solution. Last call gets later and later, I come in here so I don’t have to hate her”.
First time I heard it on the radio it was the debut for that station and they ask for feed back. I was overwhelmed and usually don’t call in for songs but this song did it to me. All I could say was “I love, love, love this song! One of the best in a very long time and I’ll sit and have a beer with these guys anytime! Keep it up!”…….the announcer got a little tickled at me but guys you are great. Going to get the CD as soon as I can find it.
