So it’s pretty easy to follow along with the story in the song. It’s like Sam is simply taking the running thoughts in his head and putting them to music.
It’s definitely a different kind of song in some ways to the music we heard on the first record. It’s very stripped back and the story in the song is what takes the lead along with Sam’s talking and singing style. It’s like he’s just in a room alone kind of pouring his feelings out into his journal.
Apparently Sam has been going through some struggles in his love life with a girl that he cares about deeply. The success kind of changed their dynamic, but he wants her back more than anything. I think the rumors out there are that the two did get back together.
So it’s a song with a happy ending.
