Song of the year material?
Chris Janson is one of the best in country music right now.
He’s kind of at that point where he’s had two big time hits and one other moderate hit.
It’s early. He seems poised to make things work well into the future. He seems like a long-term thinker.
It’s almost like he’s kind of taking the Eric Church route. Chris wants to make his kind of country music. About things he really cares about, but he might have to wait a little bit until the country mainstream buys into it.
Case in point…his new single.
Drunk Girl – Chris Janson
This one takes a serious turn. The title gets you wondering what the song will be about. A party girl? An ode to the party girl? I had no idea. Country has been very Bro Country for the last decade. It’s been all about the party. Not a ton of serious.
But every once in awhile we get a song like this one. One that has the chance to really make an impact and that could make an impact well into the future.
This song is about taking a drunk girl home and doing nothing, but making sure that she’s safe. She might have had too much to drink. Maybe there are some struggles going on in her life. It doesn’t really matter. Be a man. Be a good person. Make sure she’s safe and sound and not scared when she wakes up in the morning.
There are good people out there and I would say that Chris Janson is one of them.
