Dave Barnes is brand new to CML. This is the first time we’ve reviewed one of his songs. He has a brand new album out and it’s been getting some attention in the country world. And that includes the mainstream country world. I haven’t heard any of the songs yet on country radio, but that may happen soon.
Check out this new one and see what you think.
Glow Like The Moon – Dave Barnes
What a great melody. I find myself wanting to sing along with this one right from the first note. It’s whimsy and light and fun. It makes you feel good when you’re listening to it.
I guess there is also some bluegrass element in this song. It’s uptempo and moves right along without really slowing down to let you catch up. And it’s cool in that way.
The song seems to be a guy warning another guy that a girl is going to break his heart. It sounds like she has done this before to the narrator in the song. It’s not even the girl’s fault. She doesn’t even realize what she’s doing to all these guys or at least it doesn’t seem that way.
It seems like the girl is just the way she is. She has a nature about her that makes guys want to be close to her, but that is not her personality. She doesn’t feel the same way to the same level about the guy she’s with and it ends up in heartbreak for the guys.
You wouldn’t get that from the song at first, but the more you listen the more layers you discover. I like that about this song.
