Does the King still have a place on today’s country radio?
It’s been a little while since George Strait put out a single. And it’s been even a bit longer since he had a big hit at radio. And that’s good bad. I was pretty disappointed that his last one, Cold Beer Conversation, didn’t make it higher on the radio charts. I think it peaked around #30 or something like that. It’s a really good song.
But that’s the way it goes sometimes. George is back with a new single from that album that came out last year. It’s another good one. It’s classic George Strait. It’s swinging and fun. Does it have a place on today’s country radio?
Goin’ Goin’ Gone – George Strait
George Strait has been able to have one of the longest careers in country music I think in part to his ability to stay true to himself. He stays in the traditional country vein while still experimenting a little bit with sounds and styles, but he never goes completely in a different direction. He never betrays his fans even though he’s always looking to bring in new fans to his music.
I think this is one of those songs that can be true to his original style and his long time fans while also bringing in some new fans. The song is about a guy that’s ready to kind of give up on the reins in life. He’s ready to forget about all the things he’s supposed to do at least for one weekend. He’s gone from that and ready to have some fun.
I think people are going to like this one, but maybe I’m biased. What do you think?
