Not really sure how this one will do.
I’m a little worried about Brad Paisley.
His last single, Last Time For Everything, was really good. Really, really good. Great melody. Great lyrics. Clever. Heartfelt. Just about everything you think will connect with country listeners.
But the song only reached #19 on the radio charts. That’s not too bad, but for a legend like Brad it’s gotta be a disappointment.
If you don’t count Kix Brooks, Brad is also the longest tenured artists on Arista Nashville. You can look at that in a few ways, but I look at it as being a bit scary. Labels are often looking for the next artist to be excited about and it’s easy relationships to grow a little stale. Especially after about 20 great years.
It’s only been three years since Brad released a #1 hit. I’m sure he can do it again, but right now I’m a little worried.
Heaven South – Brad Paisley
10 years ago I would have put this as a lock for #1 on the radio charts. If it were put out today by Luke Bryan or Blake Shelton I would guess the same. But with Brad Paisley I’m just not 100% sure. I think it’s got a top 10 in it, but I don’t know anymore how fans will react to Brad Paisley music.
The song is about the great life in small town America. Lots of great imagery. It doesn’t look back on the good ole days or anything like that. It’s about the present and the great things we have right now. A little bit of a sing along anthem too. Just a great song.
How will it do? I really don’t know. I’m hoping for the best with this one.
Chart Estimate: #10
CML Points: 86/100
