Zac Brown Band has been spending the last few weeks on the top of the charts with Homegrown. It’s their first single for a new label and it looks like the guys are inspired to do even better things in the coming years.
But they’re coming out with something really different this time out. And it’s not a country single, but I think it’s still something worth listening to here on CML.
Heavy Is The Head – Zac Brown Band
Obviously this song is rock and it seems very inspired by the rock movement of the early and mid ’90s. If you recognize the other lead vocals on the track they’re Chris Cornell of Soundgarden and Audioslave. He’s one of the most successful rockers of all time.
Getting past the rock sound you have to look at this song as something catchy. I think it’s also timeless in the frame of the last 20+ years. This could have been a rock and mainstream hit back in the ’90s, but I also think it will do well today on the rock charts.
It’s catchy and has a melody that kind of keeps you rocking your head and body. I’m sure this one would kill in the live shows.
Zac has shown his rock style in the past. He worked with Dave Grohl recently and his songs in the past have had some rock influence. So this isn’t a huge surprise, but it’s a pretty big step from songs like Homegrown and Chicken Fried. But I think it’s cool and in terms of the song, it’s a hit.
What do you think?
