Last year Luke Bryan turned the page on his Spring Break mini tour that he had been doing each year since he first came on the scene some 10 years ago or so. He had always been putting out a little EP and playing a couple shows with the spring break kids.
But Luke realized that it was time to move on from that time in life. I was curious, though, if he would continue his annual EP tradition with another theme. And that thought came true when Luke announced his farm-theme tour and album earlier this year.
It’s a great new theme for Luke who I think was raised on a farm. He understands the life. He sees people in his audience that live that life. And he knows how to capture it in his music.
Here’s To The Farmer – Luke Bryan
The best songwriters are always the ones that find new ways to say familiar things. This song is really full of those kinds of lyrics and imagery. I don’t know if things like “half ton” and “10 rows in between” have been used in many country songs, but when you hear things like that you instantly know what he’s talking about.
And that’s a big deal. It’s not easy to do in songwriting, but the best are able to do it. They bring something fresh to the table while still connecting directly with their fans.
The song is obviously about farm life and how important it is to the fabric of our world. It’s a struggle. It’s not something everyone can do or is willing to do. It’s just a little tip of the hat to the farmer and all the people that help make the farm go.
