I know that Jennifer Nettles fans have been in love with her new solo record. I’ve heard just a few of the songs and those songs have been good. They’ve been different, which is also good. What I like about Jennifer is that she seems unafraid to try new things. Sugarland’s sound was different when it came out and progressed throughout the few albums they put out. And now Jennifer has found more of a new sound for herself. It’s pretty cool.
Anyway, check out this new one. It features one of country’s hottest songwriters, Brandy Clark who is also a rising country singer herself.
His Hands – Jennifer Nettles
How good is this song?
There are pop elements, but this song is really quite country. It’s pretty impressive when you just have the guitar in the background. Jennifer’s voice takes center stage and Brandy’s harmonies really add depth and meaning. It’s something really powerful.
I wasn’t sure what this song was going to be about. It certainly isn’t about the happy times although I guess there are some in the beginning, but then it becomes obvious that the song is about abuse.
That’s how it works out sometimes. Nobody goes into a relationship looking to be abused. There aren’t always warning labels and sometimes even if they are there we are blinded by the good things that we want to see.
Really powerful song here. I hope it does well on the charts. I would think that radio would embrace this one, but we’ll have to see.
