Chris Janson’s career really took off with the smash hit single Buy Me A Boat. His followup to that one made it into the top 40. I thought it might have made it a little further. It was a good song. Catchy and a little cheeky. I thought it was ready for radio, but you never know for sure.
Now he’s back with another new single. It’s different from his past singles, but I think it’s good.
Holdin’ Her – Chris Janson
I wasn’t sure what this song was going to be about. I thought maybe it would be a sad country song about a guy that lost the love of his life and that he looked back fondly at the times when he was holding her.
But it’s the exact opposite. It’s about a guy that was kind of going through life like the usual 20-something. Kind of living in the bars and playing music and going from bed to bed.
Then it kind of changed when he met a new girl. She turned out to change his life for all the right reasons. He found that he was kind of looking for her, but he didn’t know who she would be until they first met. Now his life is everything that’s wonderful and it’s all because of her.
This song definitely has potential for country radio. I’m not sure how it will do. It’s a slow ballad and a straightforward love song. But it was heart and people often connect to that.
I can’t say for sure.
