I thought Dustin Lynch’s single choices for his last two singles were questionable. They were good songs and it was obvious that Dustin wanted to prove he could get away from the ballad of his monster hit Cowboys & Angels.
The thing is that with that smash hit first single Dustin found what he is really good at. I’m sure the uptempo songs do well in concert, but fans seemed to want more of his traditional country ballads.
That’s what we have with this next new song.
Hurricane – Dustin Lynch
I had the chance to listen to the songs on Dustin’s debut record. There are some really good tracks on that album, but after listening to it a few times through I thought this song stood out the most.
The song is about a girl that has a little bit of a wild side. Trouble kinds of finds her and those around her. The guy in her life is just trying to hold on for the ride. She may not do it on purpose, but she pulls people in and takes them for a wild ride.
It’s a pretty cool song, but again it’s the melody and the traditional sound that makes this record really stand out. There isn’t much like this on country radio right now, but fans have proven that they want songs like this. They may not want every artist to sound traditional, but there is plenty of room for a guy like Dustin Lynch on the radio with traditional ballads.
I’m hoping this one makes its way up the charts in 2014. It hast he feel of one of those slow, but steady climbers.
What do you think?
Chart Estimate: #5

I like it…. ’bout time for a good country song. I like the lyrics, good description of a hurricane that tells a love story
