Jake Owen tries something new and I think he scores.

Jake Owen is back on track with his career and coming off a #1 hit single. Jake’s career has been an interesting one. He started out pretty good with some really solid songs that became hits. Then he really hit his stride a few years ago with four number one singles in a row.

Then he kind of fell back with some hits and some kind of misses. They weren’t really misses, but they just weren’t the smash hits that he had been having. And that’s totally fine. I appreciate how Jake is willing to try new things and push himself a little.

I think he’s doing a little pushing again with this new single, but I think this time it’s going to be a hit with fans.

If He Ain’t Gonna Love You – Jake Owen

Jake has always kind of blended traditional country grooves with other sounds. That’s what he’s doing on this one. I really don’t know what to compare this one to, but I’ll say that it feels like a modern country song. It seems to fit that electronic kind of feel that’s popular in the pop music world. Maybe it’s a little R&B and Lounge?

I kind of like it. Jake does a really good job on this one. His voice sounds good. There is emotion there. The song is about a guy that’s looking at this girl. He’s been an admirer, but hasn’t been able to move in because the girl was already with someone. But now it’s time for a change.

I guess Chris Stapleton provides the harmonies on this one. It adds a really cool depth to the song. It’s a good one. I like it.

Chart Estimate: #3

CML Points: 85/100
