I think things are swinging back to the traditional in country music.
I know that Sam Hunt is huge right now. And I love his music. But there have been signs that things are swinging back to the traditional country sound.
Here is another new independent act that sounds like something out of the ’70s, ’80s or ’90s. I really like what they have going on including this title track from their latest EP.
If I Knew – Neon Moon
Pretty classic country right here with the lyrics. We have a woman that realizes she’s in a bad situation with a guy. She’s kind of sitting back and thinking about how things have been working out.
The thing is she realizes that she should probably move on. The hook of the song is that she doesn’t really know what’s good for her. If she did she would dump this guy in a second and move on to whatever comes next. And that would probably lead to a great future.
But for some reason she just can’t move on. Maybe there is too much history. Maybe she’s not sure how her life looks without him. Maybe she’s already invested too much.
But it sounds like this guy has some issues. And people generally don’t change in life. The challenge is figuring out a future that’s different than the one you had in your mind.
This is some stone cold country right here. I’ll be watching for this duo in the future.
