Jamey Johnson: 2010’s Most Anticipated Album?

It’s quite possible Jamey Johnson has the most anticipated album of 2010.

Most recent reports have Johnson releasing his follow up to the smash hit That Lonesome Song this July. Tentatively titled The Guitar Song, it is an album Jamey’s growing audience is eagerly waiting. His hit album from 2008 had country music buzzing with the announced return of outlaw country.Mercury Nashville released one single My Way To You in late 2009. The single found little traction on the charts and it eventually fell off before reaching the top 40. The new song, however, did get fans’ attention as they prepare for an album’s worth of new music from their hero.

Jamey Johnson is still very active on the touring scene these days. Johnson is set to play a free show at Fort Eustis. So Jamey has been busy since his last album brought him critical praise and tons of sales starting in 2008.

After selling well over a half million copies of That Lonesome Song, I’m sure Jamey and his team want to make sure their next release is first rate true country music. Jamey seemingly came out of nowhere with the success of That Lonesome Song. The inspiration for the songs on the album came from the life Jamey was living at the time. After releasing a semi-successful album with a top twenty hit on BNA Records, Jamey started doing a little good timing. He was eventually kicked off the label and Jamey was out on his own.

Johnson either paid for studio time with his own cash or with borrowed cash from his management team to get in the studio and record That Lonesome Song. an A&R Exec at Mercury Nashville heard the new songs and bought the album. After releasing it in 2008, the lead single In Color introduced Jamey to a big audience. But it was the other songs about hard living and despair that brought Jamey a new breed of hard-core fans. People going through the same low points in life connected with the stories and it endeared the fans to Jamey.

This connection is likely what’s fueling the anticipation for new music. Fans are eager to find out what other stories Jamey has to share. People yearn for connection and understanding of their place in life. When a performer is able to bring a relatable situation to life through music there is often magic that happens.
