Jamey Johnson is an interesting dude.
In 2008, he broke through as a solo artist with his top ten hit single In Color. Before that time Jamey had seen his first single reach the top twenty but he was released from his label shortly after. After that he saw a few of his singles become hits for other artists including the Song of the Year Give It Awayby George Strait.
After the success as a songwriter and as a solo artist Jamey finds himself in an interesting position. People are counting on him for a huge follow-up album. With Jamey’s latest single release from the new album it seems he’s looking at his life now and wondering why he even wanted to make it this far. He doesn’t like the lights, the fake people, and all the BS that comes along with stardom.
Playing The Partis like no other song on the country charts right now. Jamey has the knack for removing all cliche from his songwriting. He is able to take on even the most common subject and turn it into melody and phrasing that is 100% unique.
Playing The Partis about Jamey’s life now as a star. He doesn’t really like the Hollywood kind of life and wishes things were as real and true as they were back when he was living in Alabama.
The song doesn’t sound like a common country hit, but most people were proven wrong when they said the same thing about In Color. I think this track will find its way up to the top 20 or so on the country charts. The song is catchy and melodic and I think it’ll makes its way up a bit on the charts. But maybe that’s how it’s supposed to be for Jamey. Uncomfortable with superstardom maybe Jamey’s career will be about a few modest hits with the general country audience now and then as he plays to his hardcore fans that really understand him.
If that’s the case it’s not such a bad gig.
