Artist Outlook 2012: Jason Aldean

December 12, 2011 by Dayne Shuda Leave a Comment

Jason Aldean is about as big a star as you can be in country music.

Jason Aldean

This past year, 2011, was huge, huge for Jason Aldean. As the new year rolled in Jason was riding high on a duet with Kelly Clarkson. His album, My Kinda Party was riding at the top of the charts and selling like crazy. As the year rolled on Jason brought out more singles including his biggest single to date, Dirt Road Anthem. That track crossed genres and is now even nominated for a Grammy Award. That’s big time. and Jason should win the award along with his producer and the song’s writers Brantley Gilbert and Colt Ford.

The last year has been crazy for Jason Aldean. Could even bigger things be in store for 2012?

It’ll be fun to find out.

Jason Aldean in 2012

Jason recently said that people know what he and his band are all about. Songwriters are providing songs that hit home on the themes Jason likes to sing about. He’s a Georgia boy that loves being from the South. He sings about the past, former loves, life, and other simple things going on. Jason brings a little rock to country, but he also mixes in those fun romantic songs once in a while.

Now, Jason has a huge collection of hits. He could tour for the rest of his life on these songs and the exciting part is he’s probably just getting started. Jason is about as big as you can get in country right now and it’ll be interesting to see what he does over the next couple years because he’s on the same level right now as Tim McGraw, Garth Brooks, and other superstars. All Jason needs to do is keep things rolling and in a decade he’ll be considered one of the biggest stars in country music history.

Tour

Jason’s been out on the My Kinda Party Tour for about a year and a half now. He’s been all over the country supporting his biggest album up to this point in his career. The shows keep getting bigger and heading into the new year it seems like Jason is ready to play even bigger shows. Jason is taking some time off in December to spend time with the family. He’ll head back out on the road for more dates supporting My Kinda Party in late January. The tour has been huge and the additional dates in 2012 should be just as successful. Country fans can’t get enough of Jason right now and I have to include myself in that category.

New Album

Tattoos On This Town is already at the top of the charts. Jason’s singles have been racing up the charts lately and now the question in Jason’s camp has to be if he’ll release one more single from My Kinda Party or release a brand new single. It’s not unprecedented to release a fifth or even sixth single from one album. Back about ten years ago Tim McGraw released six singles from Everywhere and they all went #1 or #2 on the charts.

Jason could do the same, but I think he’ll release something new in the spring. He said he’s heading back in the studio early in 2012 to finish up his next record. I’m sure the single will be released around that time followed up by the album in the summertime.

Jason is rolling right now and he seems to keep getting bigger with each album, which is not easy to do. Many artists peak with their first or second album. Jason has been selling more records each time out and this last time he sold over two million copies.

Can he sell three million with the new album in 2012?

There’s probably a good chance he will.

New Single

As mentioned above, I think we’ll see a brand new single from Jason sometime in the spring. I have no idea what the song will be. I haven’t seen Jason in concert recently so I’m not sure if he’s been playing any new songs. I remember back in 2010 he didn’t play any new songs and then a couple weeks later he released the song My Kinda Party. So I’m not sure if he really likes to give that peek into the music he’s making until the songs hit radio. That’s not a bad strategy. It’s been working well so far.

If you’ve been hearing new music from Jason be sure to chime in with the comments.

Awards, Respect, Legacy

It’s that time of a career for Jason to focus on his legacy.

The biggest careers in country are built over many years. Jason is at the point where he’s reached the very top. I’m sure he feels he’s got a lot more to offer the country world and I’m sure he will. People will just kind of expect him to keep releasing new singles. The difficult part will be to remain the biggest story in country music with each new release.

Sometimes, artists can fall into a little trap of releasing successful singles, but because people expect the success there really isn’t any buzz around the songs. It’s important to keep releasing music that people get emotional about. That keeps the artist in the news and the buzz flowing.

Jason is at the top of the world right now and it’ll be great to see him continue rolling in 2012.
