You gotta remember Jo Dee Messina.
Back in the late ’90s she burst onto the scene with a huge hit that reached #2 on the country charts. [easyazon-link asin=”B0011W5T7K”]Heads Carolina, Tails California[/easyazon-link] had everybody singing along that year. You couldn’t go for a 15 minute ride in the car without hearing that song. And the song has stood the time test. It’s still popular today.
After that Jo Dee kept the hits coming. Lasting all the way through her [easyazon-link asin=”B0011W5ZK6″]Greatest Hits[/easyazon-link] collection and [easyazon-link asin=”B00140K2RQ”]Delicious Surprise[/easyazon-link] album in 2005 she was racking up hits. After that it was a bit of a struggle for Jo Dee to reclaim her spot on the top of the country singles charts.
Now it’s nearing the end of 2011 and Jo Dee is back with a new sponsorship and potentially some new music…
Jo Dee Messina in 2011
Last year Jo Dee had the ambiti0us goal of releasing a three-pack of EPs. The first had a minor hit and the others didn’t see any releases to radio. I’m not sure how well the collection of songs did, but they didn’t make much noise in the industry.
Jo Dee isn’t one to give up and now in 2011 she’s giving fans even more access as part of a partnership with WD-40 and their collection of household cleaning products.
Jo Dee and WD-40
Jo Dee gives you a look inside her house as she tells her stories about being a wife, a mom, and the cleaning lady. It’s neat to get a look inside her beautiful farm home. This house is really great. I’d expect this to be the kind of house every true country artist would have.
You can also check out the official business site – Unmistakablyclean.com – and enter for a chance to win a trip to Nashville for a Jo Dee concert later this year.
Jo Dee New Music in 2011
I’ve mentioned before how Curb Records is a difficult nut to crack. They do things differently than most other labels. It’s hard to guess what artists on their roster will release new music. I don’t even know if Jo Dee is still on the label. They still have her listed so I’ll guess she is. They also have Sawyer Brown still on the label and I thought I read somewhere they’re releasing new music from another source.
Anyway, one good thing about Curb is they stick with artists for a long…long time even if the hits aren’t coming. Think of people like Steve Holy and Rodney Atkins. They’ve gone years without hits only to come back strong.
That could happen with Jo Dee. In fact, I’d bet we’ll have some new music later this fall. A new single would be likely. And depending on how the single does at radio there could be a new full-length album in 2012.
Jo Dee is lining up her cards with this new sponsorship deal. She’s probably out on the road right now. As the WD-40 partnership gains steam I’m sure she’ll be in the studio recording her next single.
And I hope it’s a rocking song back to her ’90s days. She’s still got it and I’d bet her fans are ready for a comeback.
