Joe Diffie was one of my favorite artists in the ’90s.
I loved the classics like John Deere Green
, Pickup Man
, and Bigger Than The Beatles
. For me, country music in the ’90s was the pinnacle and Joe Diffie was a big part of it.
In recent years Joe has been less active on radio with new music, but he’s got a big following over in Europe and he’s still hitting the touring circuit. He’s playing in my neck of the woods this coming summer and I’m going to have to see if I can make it.
I’m a little sorry I missed this last year, but Joe came out with what turns out to be a wonderful bluegrass album. The entire thing is awesome and it’s worth checking out, but there’s one song I had to highlight.
‘Til Death is a great song – not just a bluegrass song, but a great song period.

What do you think?
‘Til Death is actually kind of weird when you really start listening to the lyrics. The song has an upbeat kind of bluegrass groove. The sound is dead on. Diffie sings it perfectly, but the story…
‘Til Death is about a guy that comes home only to find that his best girl has left him for another. In a fit of rage he heads out to find her and once he does he kills her and the other guy with the bullet from a gun.
Pretty intense right?
I thought so, but there’s something about this song that keeps my interest. I really like it. Bluegrass has always interested me, but I probably don’t give it enough attention. I’m really glad I discovered this tune on CML Radio the other day. Joe Diffie did a great job on the song and the album.
Check it out and share your thoughts.
