This reminds me so much of Randy Travis.
Today Joe Nichols comes out with the modern day Storms of Life with every album it seems. His latest album contained a great song in the title track and before he moves on to the next collection of songs I wanted to highlight the song.
Old Things New was the title track from Joe’s last album. It doesn’t look like the song will get a single release, but it’s worth having a listen. There is a lot of depth in the lyrics and the story. There is the passion and emotion in the vocals.
The song is about a guy looking back on his life and thinking he needs to slow down today to catch up with the important things from his past. The old things need to become new again in today’s fast world.
He’s dusting off records and playing them through again. He’s catching up with old friends and getting reacquainted. He’s even looking up his old woman making her new again. Now I don’t know if that’s the best thing to do, but the song is strong otherwise. It’s an interesting story. At some point in life and probably at a few points in life I think we all get to thinking about the past a little bit.
Old Things New takes a look at the emotion we all feel when life gets moving to fast for us. We feel like we can’t keep up and need to get back in line with our roots – who we really are.
This is a beautiful song from Joe Nichols.
I hope you enjoy it too.
