The husband and wife team of Joey + Rory have a new single out.
The video has also been released and it makes for some fun country music. The new single – Headache – is sure to make you smile and probably give your significant other a few looks.
Check it out and see what you think.
Headache – Joey + Rory
It’s a fun tune.
Joey + Rory have a great chemistry on camera and on record. They have a unique position in country music as a husband and wife team. There have been a few in the past and the pairings have always made for interesting duos.
Headache is a fun take on the relationship between husband and wife. In this instance, the man wants to get away for a little bit to do some fishing. Rory plays the guy in the video and Joey plays the wife that wants him to stay home. She promises him a little trouble later when he gets back. He’ll find she’s come down with a headache and won’t be able to get very lucky…if you know what they mean.
It’s all in good fun and the two are charming on screen. Rory plays his part perfect as the guy that doesn’t even realize the impact each decision has. He thinks about one thing at a time. One moment he’s thinking about heading out with the guys and the next he’s sad about staying home with his wife. Then his mind suddenly changes again to joy as he realizes staying home was a good idea. (Happy wife = Happy life).
Sexual Theme
The song is fun. It’s not meant to be offensive or anything like that. For a long time country music has often seen its share of songs referencing love between husband and wife. The latest example is Fish by Craig Campbell.
Now we have Headache from Joey + Rory. Joey had made some plans for her and her husband for later, but Rory had some things on his mind. He didn’t even realize the mistake he was making.
And that’s usually how it goes. Us guys are so oblivious to the signs that our women want to spend some alone time together. We completely miss out on opportunities and when we finally come around the women are either upset or have one of those mysterious “headaches”.
Like I said, the song is all in good fun. Some of the funniest country songs are about the things that actually happen and this definitely fits in that category.
Husband and Wife Relationship in Country Music
Joey + Rory have been one of my favorite artists in the last few years. They’re music is unique. They bring the small town, rural, farm life back to country music. In an age where artists often bring more of the city to country it’s good to see some down home folks singing about their life on the farm. That’s a theme in all of J + R’s music and it’s evident here in the video for Headache.
I also love the unique nature of Joey + Rory. They’re husband and wife and it makes for some interesting country music. They aren’t the only husband and wife duo in country music (see: Thompson Square), but they are in the minority. It makes for good songs with honesty in the stories and real harmony in the music.
Joey + Rory Career in 2011-2012
Up to this point Joey + Rory have only scored a pair of actual charting hits. They have, on the other hand, been very successful with their core group of fans. The duo has been touring for a few years now. They seem to get lots of pay on CMT and GAC with their videos.
Headache seems like the kind of song that could become a breakthrough for Joey + Rory. It’s fun. It’s a little racy and that’s sometimes what you need to stand out in this business. This single could be the one that gets enough people talking that it just might crack the top 20 by the end of 2011.
The duo has a new album coming out toward the end of the year. They also have a Christmas album due out this fall. Joey + Rory should be top of mind in 2011 and 2012. Headache could be the single to take them to the next level in their careers.
