It’s an interesting time for Kevin Fowler.

The country singer has been on the fringe of the mainstream for a decade.

Kevin has been on a few different labels over the years. He was back with Clint Black’s label for a few years and had some success with album sales. Before that he was on an independent label with a growing success in his home state of Texas.

These days, Kevin is on Average Joe’s with a great slate of other artists and things are looking up heading into 2012.

It’s amazing to me that the general country audience doesn’t really know Kevin Fowler.

The man is one of the best out there in country music and he’s been around for a decade already. It’s a crime that he hasn’t had a top 30 hit at this point in his career. I do think his latest single is on its way to making a strong run on the charts. I think it’s got a good chance to finally get Kevin in the mainstream view.

That Girl

That Girl is one of my favorite songs of 2012. The song is just about to enter the top 40 on the charts. I’m thinking this one has a mainstream sound and could really have a chance to turn into a top 30 or maybe even top 20 song on the charts.

It’s really a simple country song, but there is plenty to like here. The song has a ripping electric guitar riff that current country songs seem to have. Kevin sings great on the record. You feel like the song is about you and the love of your life.

Simple country songs sometimes do the best on the charts. That Girl is about the love of your life. For guys, that’s the girl that’s always been there. She was the one that saw past the few warning signs and stuck with you through it all. She’s the one that loved you no matter what anyone else said. She’s always been there and she’s that girl that will be there for the rest of your lives.

It’s a great song and one of the best of the new year.

New Album

It’ll be interesting to see if Kevin Fowler releases a new album later on in 2012. Chippin’ Away was released just last summer. I’d say the record has been a success. That album was Kevin’s first with Average Joe’s. Prior to that Kevin was out on his own and before that he was with Equity Music.

I think now that Kevin has a good fit with Average Joe’s he might release an album every 12 to 18 months. Average Joe’s seems to have things in order to the point where they can release music on a pretty good clip. Their founder, Colt Ford, seems to have music out all the time and I think fans really appreciate that.

I’d imagine we’ll see a new album late in the year from Kevin Fowler. There is just something that’s going right in his career now and I think he and the label will work to capitalize on that.

Let’s see how things shake out with That Girl. I think from there we could see a new single in the fall and perhaps a new album as the year comes to a close. I’m sure if you hear Kevin out there on tour this year you might get a preview of a few new tracks.

Tour

I don’t think Kevin Fowler takes time off. There is a full lineup of shows for 2012. The man is out on tour constantly and there’s no slowing down heading through 2012.

There are plenty of shows down south and in Texas. Kevin has always done well in his home state and the surrounding areas. I shouldn’t say that he has always done well down there. I’m sure there was a time when he was a struggling artist just looking for a few tips.

These days Kevin is a pretty major country star. He’s probably one of the biggest stars out there that is just under the radar of the mainstream. As the years go by, though, I think Kevin is bringing in more attention out on the road.

It would be nice to see him added to a few lineups around the US on the country fest circuits. He could easily fill up a few fields here in Wisconsin for a few of the country shows.
