Kid Rock has turned a love for music into a multi-genre superstar career over the past 15 to 20 years.
Since his breakout pop-rock-rap album Devil Without a Causein 1998 he has been one of the last standing unique rock stars of the last decade. Kid has an attitude about him that gives everyone else the finger letting them know he’s going to do whatever he wants. And it’s worked out well for him.
Even as far back as 2001 Kid was venturing into country. That year he teamed with now best buddy Hank Williams Jr. for a raucus The ‘F’ Word. The song wasn’t a huge hit but it established the two as an old rebel passing the torch on to the new country rebel. Rock followed up that introduction a year later with the ballad Picture, which peaked at #21 on the country singles charts.
A few years later in the summer of 2008 Kid had his biggest country hit to date with the summer anthem and Lynyrd Skynyrd/Warren Zevon mash-up All Summer Long. The track became a huge hit on multiple charts and cemented Kid Rock as a legit country performer.
Now Kid is back with a new single made for the country audience.
Born Free is another anthem song from Rock that declares his love for growing up free in America. The heart of the American dream has always been that everyone gets a chance to make something of themselves. The base of America was that everyone was simply left alone to make a better life for themselves.
The song is melodic, catchy, and fun to sing along to once the chorus hits.
Rock’s voice is no doubt drenched in soul with a bit of grit and guts. He puts his fulls self into the tracks he writes and records. Born Free is no different as he belts out the notes and lyrics to this American anthem.
The song is a bit Springsteen with a little bit of Seger in there as well for good measure.
