Here we have the first single from a new group on the country scene. They’re on Wheelhouse records, which is a new spinoff label from the Broken Bow group. And that label has been having some strong success the last several years. They’ve home to Jason Aldean, Joe Nichols, Dustin Lynch and more. They know what they’re doing.
The new band is Runaway June. They’re a female trio and they really have a catchy new song that’s ready for country radio.
Lipstick – Runaway June
The hook on this one is a little advice to women out there that are falling for men. The advice is to love someone that will ruin your lipstick and not your mascara. The hint there is that you want a guy that will love you and kiss you and all those good things without making you cry.
That’s some good advice. But it can be difficult to know for sure what will happen when you’re in a new relationship. Things can seem good initially, but then it can take a turn for the worse. It’s kind of the nature of things when you’re jumping in and looking for love.
So that’s the background on the lyrics. The story with the group is that they have a unique sound. It’s a little Dixie Chicks and a little Maddie & Tae. Runaway June has a great depth to their sound. They all sound great together and country music could use another female trio. Women have kind of been taking over the radio charts the last year or so and it’s been a needed change. I think this group has a good song that should do well on the charts.
Chart Estimate: #20
CML Points: 84/100
This song is great! I like their tight harmonies, and it does have a great melody. #RunawayJune is going places
