I think she has one of the best voices in country music.
She’s had a few hits now and her career seems to be going up and up.
Looking Back Now – Maggie Rose
After listening to the song I remembered back and thought that maybe I’d heard it before. That did turn out to be the case. Here was my review from over two years ago when Maggie first had a version of this song out. Back then it was called Whiskey And A Gun.
That happens sometimes. An artist gets a hold of a song that is really special and they might release it and it doesn’t get the kind of attention it should. But once that artist gets a few hits they’ll re-release a song or in this case release it as a single and it gets proper attention.
This time I also think I realized the song is darker than I thought the last time. I didn’t realize the first time that the woman is looking back on the moment in her living room when her cheating man came back and dared her to do it saying she didn’t have the guys.
Now she’s in the prison yard thinking about it and ends up getting the needle when things are all over and done with.
It’s a pretty dark song, but something that makes you think of the popular show Orange Is The New Black and things like that. There have been a few songs like this out the last couple years. And even over the years there have been songs like this.
I don’t know what it is with country listeners, but sometimes we like to hear a really dark song about getting fed up and taking things into our own hands.
Great song here from Maggie Rose. I hope it does well.
