I like songs that have layers of interest. This new single from Love and Theft is one of those songs. We’ll start with the fact that it’s the new single for this country band that has been rising up the charts recently. It’s a great song and I think it has a chance to break into the top 20 on the charts. Check it out.
If You Ever Get Lonely – Love and Theft
This song is a love song. It’s about a guy that wants to be there for his woman. He wants to give her everything she needs. She hasn’t always been around. It sounds like it’s after a breakup, but the guy still has something pulling him toward the girl. He wants to hold onto hope.
The melody is really strong. You can tell there are some pop influences in this song. The verses are really strong. It tells a story and then the chorus gets you hooked as you sing along.
All right. Now the part for the additional layer of interest in the song. This is a John Waite original. The rocker has been busy with music since his big days in the ’80s with hits like Missing You and When I See You Smile (with Bad English). This track was off his latest album that came out in 2011. It’s a great song.
These songs do get bounced around from artist to artist. I think Love and Theft do a great job with the song. They found a gem and I’m sure Waite is glad that more people will discover his music.
