For me, the first impression of a song is always with the melody and this song has a really cool melody. It’s upbeat and easy to groove along with. When you’re working and listening to the radio in the background you really don’t get captured by the lyrics right away. Or even if you’re in the car driving along you kind of zone out and it takes a good melody to grab your attention. You’ll often get caught up in a melody without even realizing it.
After you realize you like a song thanks to the melody you start listening to the lyrics. And if the lyrics are good then you have a hit record. And this song has great lyrics. The concept is that someone is having trouble getting the person they like to make a commitment. They’re stuck in the maybe of the relationship not willing to go all the way and take the plunge.
We’ve probably all met someone like this. They like spending time with us, but when it comes to taking that next step they get cold feet and say that they’re maybe ready.
Well that’s not enough for love. You have to be all the way in it.
