I’m a Margaret Durante fan.

As I listen to the songs she just released on her latest album it becomes even more clear the talent this girl has. She hasn’t made a big impact just yet on the singles charts, but I think as she finds where she fits in on radio she’ll become a star.

It comes off the Maybe Tonight EP. There were only four songs on the small set, but they are all winners. Two have been released to radio at this point and hopefully the current title track will catch some more attention at radio so others like Whiskey And A Gun can be released.

Women have always brought the dark side of life to country music. There are plenty of happy songs, but that’s typically only one side of life. It takes a real woman to have the guts to sing about the dark times. That’s what Margaret did with Whiskey And A Gun.

In the song there is cheating going on. Or perhaps the man in the song has just been treating his girl the wrong way. Whatever the cause he’s pushed the woman too far this time. Now she’s sitting there listening to him lie to her face. She’s not going to take it anymore and oh by the way – she’s holding whiskey and a gun.

This song could be the in-your-face murder song, but it’s more laid back. There is a different emotion in this one. The way Margaret sings the track gives it a real darkness. There is nothing playful or anything that makes you smile during this track.

You listen and you think darkness. It’s the dark side of life.

Whiskey And A Gun is another great example of the talent Margaret brings to the big country table. I can’t wait to hear more.
