Artists, especially established artists, get pitched so many songs that it has to be difficult to find one that fits their specific voice, personality, and fanbase expectations. Each album typically gets 10 or so songs and an artist can’t hold onto all the good songs forever.
Wild One – Martina McBride
Can you name one you passed on?
“Wild One, Faith Hills’ first song. It was a perfect song for her.”
Wild Onewas a huge debut hit for Faith Hill. It’s hard to imagine anyone singing the song like Faith, but Martina would be one that could pull it off.
Martina also gave some interesting insight about how she copes with not being able to record all the amazing songs she is pitched:
“I haven’t regretted anything. I’ve passed on songs that have gone on But it’s kind of like, when you look at a rack of gorgeous dresses. You can try them, but they don’t really fit or make you look great. They look great on someone else. Songs are not right for some people and right for some other people.”
That’s a great attitude to have and a great metaphor to help people understand.
Things usually work out for the best in country music and in life. Faith Hill got to have Wild One and she became a star. Martina had her hits and even had her own “Wild” tune two years after Wild Onewith 1995’s #1 hit Wild Angels.
