This track was actually released just a few months ago, but now it’s getting a little extra promotion.
Matt Kennon reached the top 30 a couple years ago with a song called The Call. Now he’s looking to find the charts once again with You Had To Pick On Me.
You Had To Pick On Me – Matt Kennon
I didn’t see this song coming.
It’s not the kind of topic you see often in music. Here we have Matt Kennon singing about a big problem in the world today: bullying. It goes on all the time with kids in school, but it also happens throughout adulthood. It never ends, but it starts right there with the kids in school and sometimes it ends in the worst way imaginable.
From a musical standpoint this song is strong. Matt’s vocals are unique and powerful. The melody is strong. You feel the lyrics and the meaning of the song. It’s hits you and makes you a little uncomfortable, but in a good way. This song gets you thinking about what’s happening to these poor kids. It makes you want to do something. And if you were the bully in school it makes you feel even more guilty.
Matt Kennon has done something special with You Had To Pick On Me. It’s a powerful song that deserves attention from the mainstream country audience. I’m not sure if it will find a place on the charts, but I think the song will become something important for the kids and the adults out there dealing with the issue of bullying.
Great song. Well done, Matt.
