The first time I heard this song was the Montgomery Gentry version. I didn’t really take the time back then or in the time since to look into the song very much. I just knew that this song kind of painted a very honest picture of what Christmas is like for so many families out there. It’s not perfect and it’s not always enjoyable, but it is what it is and it works out all right.
Merry Christmas From The Family – Angaleena Presley
And it turns out the song is originally by Robert Earl Keen. I love a country Christmas song and I think this one is certainly a classic. And Angaleena does an amazing job on it. She kind of paints the picture as intended in the lyrics, but also kind of adds some class and a little bit of sass too. I like it.
If you’ve been following the reviews here on CML you know I’m a huge Angaleena Presley fan at this point. She’s from the Pistol Annies, but now she’s released a solo record and I think it’s something different and something amazing compared to other music out there. Hopefully she can continue to get some attention in the mainstream and build a solid career.
In the meantime, Merry Christmas to you and yours and here is a song to make you think about your family on this great holiday.
