Are Big Smo and Darius Rucker a hit together?

Country artist Big Smo has become a bit of a star in the country world. His TV show debuted earlier this summer and seemed to have a pretty good run on A&E. The ratings were respectable and people seemed to get to know Smo and his family as he struggled to earn respect in the country music industry.

One thing that can always help a new artist to earn new fans is a collaboration. And Smo scored a big one when he was able to team up with superstar Darius Rucker for a song.

Here was the result.

My Place – Big Smo feat. Darius Rucker

If you’ve heard some of Smo’s music before you know that he really enjoys singing about the place where he lives. That’s what this song is about and it’s really where Smo shines brightest.

He has songs about other topics, but his most popular seem to be the ones that share stories about his life and where he’s from. People relate to those because they have similar stories and they come from the same types of places. It doesn’t matter if you’re from a small town in Wisconsin or a small town in Tennessee. If you’re the type of person that likes to have friends over to have a good time then this is a great song for you.

And when you throw in a chorus by Darius Rucker you know you’re going to have a strong song.

From what I can tell this is the first song of Smo’s to chart on the Billboard charts. It’s entered the top 50 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, which mostly means that fans have been downloading it.

What do you think of it?

CML Points: 88/100
