Back in 2002, the course of Kenny Chesney’s career changed. He had a number of big time hits in the ’90s and his albums were selling very well. But he wasn’t what you would call a superstar artist at that time.
Then the album No Shoes No Shirt No Problems was released. Talk about a watershed album. The hits kept coming and it ushered in an era where Kenny was the biggest artist in country music for about a decade both in selling records and in touring. You could probably argue that he was in the top five artists of all genres during that run.
The thing with breakout albums, though, is they are so good that not all the best songs can be released. This record actually had five big hits out of twelve tracks. Then it came time to release a new record and Kenny kept on moving.
But there were some strong album tracks on that record including On The Coast Of Somewhere Beautiful. I remember listening to this song back then. I hadn’t really remembered it much until today when I thought of it for some reason.
The song was right there in the new wheelhouse for Kenny. It has that island vibe, but this is kind of a sad song. I think it’s about a guy that meets this girl and he kind of falls for her, but for whatever reason she’s gone and they’re not together.
I just think it’s a great song and one that got missed all those years ago.
