I’m a big Pam Tillis fan.
The other day I heard another classic song of hers and had to include her again on Flashback Friday. Fridays are pretty good on their own, but with a Pam Tillis song in the afternoon things really don’t get much better.
In Between Dances is not one of Pam’s more well known songs. I’m not really sure why. If you ask Pam Tillis fans to name their favorite song I’m not sure if this one would be mentioned. I’d have to say it’s definitely in my top three favorite songs of hers.
In Between Dances is about a woman in between relationships. She’s worked up the strength to go out to the bars and taverns. Maybe she’s out with friends. She still feels a little sad about how things ended with the last guy.
We’ve all probably been there before. We’ve just gone through a recent breakup. We’ve been with the person a long time, but for whatever reason things didn’t work out. Now both parties have moved on.
After so much time together with someone you just need some time to get over the situation and get used to your new life. It takes time to adjust. After a bit of time we work up the strength to go out with friends. Someone out at the hot spots will probably ask us to dance.
That’s what happened to the narrator in this song. She’s out with friends, but she’s not ready to dance with the cute guy in the bar. She’s In Between Dances until a bit more time passes in her life.
