One of my all time favorites.
I realize I haven’t done a female Flashback Friday yet and that’s not right. Here is one of my all time favorite songs from one of country’s greatest female artists.
Maybe It Was Memphis was a top hit for Pam Tills back in 1991. Pam had actually recorded the song earlier in her career, but it was this later version that became the song everybody knows. The track was even nominated for song of the year. Not too shabby.
Maybe It Was Memphis is a song about two lovers that had a short time together in Memphis, Tennessee. The woman is having memories of that time and looking back at the great love that was shared. The passion, the emotion comes through in every lyric. Pam pours her heart out full in this song. Pam always nailed it with her songs, but this one was something special.
One of the completely unscientific ways I measure the greatness of a song is to observe the way people react when it comes on the radio. Maybe It Was Memphis is the kind of song that will get most people singing along when it comes on the radio. If you know someone that is at least somewhat interested in country music they probably will sing along with the chorus of Maybe It Was Memphis
. It’s that catchy and really it’s that good.
I love hearing this song on the radio today and always crank it up. The track reminds of the good country music that came out in the ’90s including nearly all Pam Tillis singles.
What do you think?
Is this a great country song?
