I first heard about the group Temecula Road just recently when they did a cover of Justin Bieber’s Love Yourself. It’s kind of a cool time in music when artists can cover a popular song, put it on YouTube and have the chance to be discovered by music fans.
And I have to admit that Love Yourself has been an earworm for me the last few weeks. That little kid Bieber put out a really good album even though I hate to admit it.
Anyway, after checking out that cover by Temecula Road I checked them out on Spotify and this was a song they released last year. So it’s not entirely new, but we’ll check it out anyway.
Paper Or Plastic – Temecula Road
This group has a pretty cool thing going on. I like their sound. They seem to have a little bit of indie rock mixed with a little pop and some country. It’s a good sound and I’m sure they’re only getting better so that’s kind of exciting.
The song seems to be about a potential love that’s brewing in, of all places, the checkout line at the grocery store. We have a back and forth going on between the girl that’s kind of falling for the guy that’s bagging the groceries. And the guy is feeling the same thing.
A little corny? Maybe. But I think that’s okay. It’s good to believe that love can happen in just a simple every day situation.
I’m curious to see what this band does going forward. They have that mixed gender thing going on where they can do some cool songs like this one.
What do you think?
