It’s hard to imagine now, but back in the beginning Blake Shelton had a tough time getting back to back hits. He would have smash number one songs and then his subsequent releases would kind of wallow in the top 20 or top 30.
I think the songs were all pretty including this one, which is one of my all-time favorites. I still think it’s a favorite of Blake’s fans. You can’t beat a fun song about being young and getting in trouble.
The title is really long. And it’s told like a short story. You have two cousins that grew up together getting in trouble and end up getting in trouble as they head off to college.
Of course the main character is usually on the good path, but that John Roy is always the one stirring up trouble. But we all kind of need that person in our life who kind of pushes us to try crazy things.
What’s the worst that can happen really? We only live one life and if you’re not hurting anybody else I don’t think there is anything wrong with having a good time. But most of us won’t really do that on our own. We need a John Roy in our live to push and push.
But hopefully that won’t end up with all of us together in a Mexican jail.
Here is one of my favorites. I hope you enjoy this flashback.
