I have to give credit to Wayne Manning for letting me know that Ruthie Collins was an up and coming country artist. Not only is she a new artist in Nashville, but she’s a traditionalist. If you listen to some of the videos on her YouTube page you’ll see that she grew up on a farm and has a love for all things vintage including music.
That love for vintage country songs resulted in her new single that is getting some airplay already. It’s a reworking of the Hank Williams song Ramblin’ Man, which I have to admit I haven’t heard in a really long time.
Check out Ruthie’s version and let me know what you think.
Ramblin’ Man – Ruthie Collins
This really caught me off guard. I think Ruthie might be my new favorite country artist right now. I love this song and I love her style. She’s a little modern, but a ton of vintage and country could use a little more of that right now.
It’s always cyclical in country and for the last few years it’s been about hard rock and hip hop influences. And that’s fine. Things need to get pushed forward, but I think what Ruthie is doing will push things forward while looking back a little further for some influence.
I really like the song too. It’s catchy and it gets you moving and singing along. I like it a lot.
Let me know what you think of this one.
